How does your brand actually sound?

Give us two pages from your website. We'll profile the tone of each, check for jargon and generic, AI-sounding copy, and tell you whether the two sound like the same business.

Scored out of 20. Takes under a minute. One free audit per email address.

What we check

Four tone dimensions. Four scores.

The tone profile uses the four dimensions of voice from the Nielsen Norman Group, the UX research firm. There's no right or wrong position on them. What matters is that your voice is deliberate and consistent.

1

Funny ↔ Serious

Do you use humour, or keep it straight?

2

Formal ↔ Casual

Suit and tie, or shirt sleeves?

3

Respectful ↔ Irreverent

Do you play it safe, or push back on convention?

4

Enthusiastic ↔ Matter-of-fact

Energy and exclamation marks, or calm facts?

5

Clarity

Is it easy to understand on first read?

6

Plain language

Is it free of jargon, buzzwords and corporate filler?

7

Human voice

Does it sound like a real person wrote it, or like generic AI copy?

8

Consistency

Do your two pages sound like the same business?

How it works

Three steps, under a minute

Step 1

Choose two pages

Pick two pages with real copy on them, such as your homepage and your About or Services page.

Step 2

We read and analyse them

We read the words on each page and profile the tone against the four dimensions, then compare the two.

Step 3

Your report arrives

By email, and saved in your account if you sign up with the same address. Every recommendation becomes a task in your Marketing Planner.

Human-curated by design

The audit tells you how you sound today. Deciding how you should sound is a human decision about your brand, and that's what the next tools in the suite are built to help you capture.

FAQ

Questions about the audit

What are the four tone dimensions? +

They come from the Nielsen Norman Group's research on tone of voice: funny vs serious, formal vs casual, respectful vs irreverent, and enthusiastic vs matter-of-fact. Each page is placed on a five-point scale for all four.

Is it really free? +

Yes. You get one free Tone of Voice Audit per email address, covering two pages. Pro members can run more audits and add other sources later.

What does "sounds like AI" actually mean? +

We look for the habits of generic machine-written copy: stock openers, buzzwords, lists of three adjectives, empty superlatives and a lack of concrete detail. It isn't a detector. It's a check on whether your copy sounds like a specific human business.

What happens to my pages and my details? +

We read the public text on the two pages you give us to produce your report, and store the report so you can see it in your account. Your details are never shared. See our Privacy Policy for the detail.

Pair it with the Website Audit

The Website Audit scores your site across five areas. The Tone of Voice Audit looks at how it sounds. Together they feed one Marketing Planner.
